We met today in lab as a group and attempted to narrow down our project topic to one area. We decided to concentrate on sugar-mediated signaling in arabidopsis plants and researched possible mutants. Two genes in particular stood out: AT4G27750, a gene that coordinated synthesis of carbohydrates (2 possible mutants), and AT2G20890, a gene involved in the formation of the thylakoid membrane (2 mutants). Unfortunately, neither of these were listed to have phenotypic responses in mutants as previously thought.
In order to decide which of these genes would be more suitable to study, we agreed to search separately for sources concerning possible experimental effects mutants of these genes might have upon arabidopsis plants. We will then pool this data and determine as a group which gene, and in turn which mutant, is suitable for study. Further research will then be conducted to support the mutant of choice.
