Percent Weight Change versus Sucrose Concentration
Along with the percent change of potato weight in conjunction to sucrose concentration, the overall water potential of the potato tissue was 0.89208 MPa. Also, the pressure potential within the leaf petiole was at least -4 MPa, but could not be accurately measured due to the capacity of the instrument.

We met today in lab as a group and attempted to narrow down our project topic to one area. We decided to concentrate on sugar-mediated signaling in arabidopsis plants and researched possible mutants. Two genes in particular stood out: AT4G27750, a gene that coordinated synthesis of carbohydrates (2 possible mutants), and AT2G20890, a gene involved in the formation of the thylakoid membrane (2 mutants). Unfortunately, neither of these were listed to have phenotypic responses in mutants as previously thought.
In order to decide which of these genes would be more suitable to study, we agreed to search separately for sources concerning possible experimental effects mutants of these genes might have upon arabidopsis plants. We will then pool this data and determine as a group which gene, and in turn which mutant, is suitable for study. Further research will then be conducted to support the mutant of choice.

Looking through arabidopsis.org, I found it to be a very useful and elaborate site due to the vast amount of information available. Though it held so much information, it was easy to navigate and understand. In particular I looked at molecular functions and biological processes. I was interested by the genes associated particularly with physiological defense response, as well as physiological processes, both as a response to stimulus and tissue/organ functions. However, I’m more intrigued by the defense response of the plant to pathogens, as this appears to be both an interesting topic to test as well as an area with many associated genes and mutants.
